Everyone has their own definitions on what robots should be like. Children will always think that robots are tiny and cute, just like in Pixar movies. Men will always want Transformers which can switch from robot to car and vice versa at their command. On the other hand, ladies will always dream for their perfect man in the form of a robot.
The imaginary (and also, real) world of robots is huge. Characters like Wall-E, Transformers, Terminator, Bender and R2D2 are examples of robots which made it big in cinemas and TVs around the world. Everyone loves a robot which is cute like Wall-E, bad ass like Transformers and Terminator and also funny like Bender and R2D2 from the Star Wars series. These robots are the main attraction in the cinemas and have raked in billions of dollars for the film producers.
Robots in the real world are neither as advanced nor funny like those that we see on the screen. But needless to say, with the rapid advancement in science and technology, we will probably be seeing robots in our daily life sometime really soon. For example, Honda has been developing the ASIMO robot for many years. ASIMO which is an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility is a robot which can carry out basic functions like following voice commands, lifting up things and walking about on its own. ASIMO, one of the most renowned robots in the world has been brought on tour around the world, to the delight of many robot fanatics and fans. Honda is still working on ASIMO to improve and make it a more complete and humanoid machine.
Due to the different interpretations of robots, designers have tons of ideas and concepts to work on. Many people have the idea of what their robots should be able to do (whether it is washing plates, doing the laundry or fetching their kids to school) but they cannot picture how the robot would look like in the real world. This is where the assistance of designers comes in.
Designers put ideas and concepts into real drawings and animations. Take for example the Transformer series. The man behind Transformers thought of what his robots should be able to do, but had no idea how to turn it into animated animations and toy figurines. It is the duty of the designer to come up with the robot design and features. If the founder of Transformers had chosen another group of designers for the Transformer series, we can bet you that BumbleBee, Optimus Prime and Cybertron wouldn’t look as cool as it is today.
In this article, we present to you a collection of stunning robot illustrations for your enjoyment. Let your imagination run wild with the architecture and design of these robots. Who knows that one day, we might be able to see one of these robots on the big screen or in real life. Enjoy.
